Hyderabad, December 09: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Thursday hailed the decision of Andhra Pradesh High Court granting bail to party’s politburo member Cheruku Sudhakar.
“The High Court has undone the injustice done by the State Government,” TRS MLA K Tarakarama Rao said while addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan. He said grant of bail to Cheruku Sudhakar clearly indicates that he was wrongly booked under the National Security Act by the State Government. He announced that the party would wage a legal battle against the government for misusing the NSA.
Tarakarama Rao said that the government has violated the provision of the NSA. “As per the Act, a person can be detained for only three months, whereas, Cheruku Sudhakar was detained for 12 months. Further, the government has failed to send a report to the Centre within seven days of his arrest,” he said. The state government first booked the case under Preventive Detention Act and modified the same to NSA after six days, he said.
The TRS MLA also alleged that the decision to book Cheruku Sudhakar under the NSA was taken by some retired judges hailing from the Seemandhra leaders. He said the party would approach the court with all the details and seek justice.
Reacting to Union Minister of State for Home Jitendra Singh’s statement that smaller states could be formed only with consensus, Tarakarama Rao said that there were only 14 states at the time of independence. However, the number got more than doubled in 60 years and consensus never became the base for State formation.
Tarakarama Rao also denied reports of possibilities of TRS having a tie-up with the YSR Congress party. “We are not ready to work with any Seemandhra party or leader at this juncture,” he said.
