Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee (GHCC) Minorities Department chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail on Friday accused the TRS Government of deviating from established legal procedures to provide promised 12% Muslim reservation.
Abdullah Sohail said that the statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office after Sudhir Commission submitted its report to Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao clearly indicates that the TRS Government wants to prolong the issue for few more years. “The Chief Minister did not mention a word about constituting a Backward Classes Commission to increase Muslim reservation from present 4% to 12%. Now he says that the report will be discussed in State Cabinet meeting and then an Assembly session would be convened to pass a resolution seeking 12% Muslim reservation. This route will only lead to us to a dead end,” he said.
The Congress leader said that the Sudhir Commission report has no legal sanctity. But the same can be used as a prelude to constitute a BC Commission which is legally empowered to increase the quota. “KCR has promised to give 12% Muslim reservation within four months after coming to power. He wasted over 25 months. Now he is having the Sudhir Commission Report, which is only of referral and academic value. He apparently wants to drag the issue till next elections. Quota in jobs and education cannot be given to any community just by passing a resolution in Assembly. The only legal and constitutional route is BC Commission. Therefore, instead of wasting the time, the Chief Minister should constitute a BC Commission,” he demanded.
Abdullah Sohail said that although the Sudhir Commission Report is yet to be made public, its content might not surprise the community. “The entire world knows that Muslims in Telangana are educationally, economically and socially backward. This was revealed in all the surveys and enquiries held in the past. Sudhir Commission Report would be a fresh addition in the genre of ‘Muslim Backwardness’. We don’t want statistics. We want promised 12% reservation,” he said. (INN)
