Central government has ignored Telangana state in connection with development of smart cities across the country. On the other hand ruling TRS failed to recommend for more number of Telangana cities in the list of smart cities. Leader of opposition in legislative council Mohammed Ali Shabbir strongly reacted on the injustice done towards Telangana in connection with selection of 98 smart cities. He claimed that dampening the hopes of people of both Telugu speaking states, only 3 smart cities had been picked from the successor state of Andhra Pradesh and 2 from Telangana where as good share was given to Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka states. Vishakhapatnam, Kakinada and Tirupati have been picked up from Andhra Pradesh where as only Hyderabad and Warangal have been qualified from Telangana. Central government should have selected more cities from the newly formed Telangana state for development, he felt.
