Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Thursday alleged that the TRS Government has failed to get the Central funds in the last five months.
Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan here, Ponnala said that the Telangana Government did not get about Rs 7,000 crore of Central funds. Describing it as a miserable failure, he demanded that the State Government follow up the issue with the Centre and get the funds which were meant for the Telangana State. He also expressed doubts over the implementation of the schemes announced in the State’s budget. He asked Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to explain as to how he plans to fund the schemes with a budget deficit of Rs 17,800 crore.
Ponnala claimed that while the budget was being presented in the House on Wednesday, one farmer committed suicide near KCR’s farm house. However, he said that the State Government did not bother to take any steps to prevent suicides. He said sufficient funds have not been allotted for the generation of 20,000 MW, as promised in the budget. Similarly, the government does not look serious in releasing the funds for minorities welfare although it enhanced the allocated to Rs 1030 crore. He said that the government did not even release Rs 15 crore that it announced for Moharram arrangements. He also criticised the government for not mentioning anything in the budget speech about giving 12% reservation to Muslim community. (INN)
