Telangana TDP unit on Friday demanded that the State Government act tough against the firms selling spurious or duplicate seeds to the farmers in the State.
Speaking to media persons here, TDP working president and MLA A. Revanth Reddy said that the business of spurious seeds was thriving in the state resulting in huge loss to the farmers. He alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had promised to make the state Seed Bowl of India but failed to keep his promise. This shows how serious the state government is towards the welfare of the farmers, he said.
The TDP MLA said that before the bifurcation of state, the Seeds Development Corporation was in good financial condition, but it is know in crisis due to the state government’s negligence. Had the state government initiated steps to strengthen the corporation, the farmers would have benefitted out of it, he said.
Revanth Reddy said that the state government had reduced the subsidy on Soyabean seeds from 50 per cent to 33 per cent. The TRS government makes false claims of being farmer friendly government, but is quite opposite. The farm sector is completely neglected, the TD MLA added. (INN)
