TRS general body meet asks KCR to continue as party president

Hyderabad, June 21: The high drama, which began in Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) with the resignation of its president K Chandrasekhar Rao yesterday, continued with the party state general body unanimously rejecting the resignation.

The general body, which conducted an emergency meeting at the Telangana Bhavan here today under the chairmanship of vice-president Captain Lakshmikantha Rao, adopted a resolution rejecting Chandrasekhar Rao’s resignation and asking him to continue in his position.

Though a proposal was put forth for disbanding the TRS state executive, it was not approved by the general body, party spokesman Jagadeeshwar Reddy said.

The TRS general body reiterated the same old lines: The turmoil in the party is nothing but a conspiracy by the pro-unified state forces. They are bent on weakening the Telangana movement by discrediting KCR who has been making tireless efforts for securing statehood for the region for the last nine years.

Senior party leaders E Rajender, Nayini Narasimha Reddy, Madhusudana Chari and others visited KCR’s residence after the three-hour-long meeting and handed over copies of the general body resolutions. They requested him to withdraw his resignation and continue to lead the outfit till the goal of securing statehood or Telangana was achieved.

Immediately thereupon, KCR rushed to the party ideologue Jayasankars residence to discuss the next course of action. Rajender, Nayini and former MP B Vinod accompanied KCR.

Party sources indicated that KCR might take a decision based on the advice of Jayashankar.

Meanwhile, the TRS rebels met at the residence of former minister A Chandrasekhar and termed KCR’s resignation yet another high drama which would end with the same climax his continuation in the party president’s post.

“We are ready to re-join the TRS if KCR confines himself to an honorary advisor’s role and makes a Dalit leader the party chief. Let him be the guiding spirit of the party and the movement for separate Telangana,” Chandrasekhar said.
