In what is called a surprise move, the TRS leadership for first time came in support of the special status for Andhra Pradesh even as Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Telugu Desam’s Central Ministers are pressing the Centre for quite some time while the Opposition YSRCP too making all efforts for the cause. TRS MP K Kavitha from Nizamabad today vouched for special status for Andhra Pradesh.
Kavitha attended a function at Krishnamurthy’s house at Nandigama near Vijayawada, who worked as secretary to KCR when he was minister. Speaking to mediapersons later, Kavitha said the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre has responsibility to implement the promise of the previous UPA Government on the special status. The TRS will support the demand in Parliament along with others to exert pressure on the Centre, she said.
“It is not good to dishonor the previous government’s decision and the Centre has to take a final call. Though not on technical grounds, the NDA Government can take a political decision to accord special status to Andhra Pradesh”, the MP stated. She also said the peoples of both the Telugu States will remain as usual despite State’s bifurcation for administrative ease and smooth governance. The TRS MP also tied rakhis to some AP youth and offered sweets to mark the Raksha Bandhan.
The TRS extending support to special status to AP came in the wake of Congress MP KVP Ramachandra Rao spoke to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at a marriage function of Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah in the city a few days ago. KVP probably sought KCR’s support and the TRS has taken a stance in support of the special tag. (NSS)
