TRS demands NCERT Centre for Telangana

Hyderabad, April 08: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) legislator T Harish Rao has urged chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to take steps for establishing the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT)’s regional institute either in Hyderabad or in Telangana districts.

In a letter to the chief minister, the TRS MLA said he was making the plea to him after he came to know that minister for higher secondary education K Parthasarathy and Union Minister for Human Resources D Purandeswari were planning to have the institute located in Andhra area.

The TRS leader said that the NCERT had sounded the state government for allotment of 350 acres of land near Hyderabad for location of the regional institute of education. But the the two ministers are now active in ensuring that it would be located either in Chittoor or in Krishna district. He said he had information that the process of acquiring land for NCERT had already begun.

He said that at a time when Telangana remained backward with low literacy

rate, it was unfortunate that efforts have begun to hijack the institute to Andhra.
