The Telangana Rashtra Samithi oin Wednesday demanded that the Centre formulate a new national policy on utilisation of natural gas.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, Sircilla MLA K Taraka Ramarao said that the Centre should give priority in the allocation of gas to the State where it was being produced. He demanded that the Empowered Group of Ministers revive its decision on supply of KG Basin gas to different States. Regarding the Centre’s decision to stop supply of gas to Ratnagiri power plant, he said the cancellation was temporary and the Centre should take a permanent decision on the issue.
The TRS leader also criticised the State Government for not supplying gas to the power plants being run by AP Power Generation Corporation or GENCO. Instead of supplying gas to Shankarpally and Nedunuru projects, the government has been supplying gas to the Lanco and GMR power plants. Demanding that the State Government divert the gas supplies to Genco plants, he also asked it furnish the reasons that led it supply gas to private plant while ignoring public-sector plants.
