TRS demand a non-issue: PC

New Delhi, January 05: Despite The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the BJP cold-shouldering Thursday’s all-party meeting, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said Tuesday that he was confident of all the eight parties attending the meeting to discuss the findings of the Srikrishna Committee.

Indicating that there would be no change in the number of representatives invited for the meeting as demanded by the TRS, Chidambaram said, “we invited two representatives per party to the last meeting on January 5, 2010. So, following the same pattern we’ve asked the parties to send two representatives. But it is open to a party to send one representative.”

Cautious not to get entangled in any controversy on the highly emotive issue, Chidambaram refused to entertain any question on the government’s next step beyond the January 6 meeting. Asked if it was an embarrassment for the government after two major parties announced boycott of Thursday’s meeting, Chidambaram replied, “we will wait to see what will happen on January 6.”

He further said, “based on last year’s experience merely because two people represent a party does not mean two views are expressed, for example, CPI, CPM, BJP, TRS and MIM all expressed only one view. ”
