The Telangana Rashtra Samithi in an unexpected move decided to move a no confidence motion against Kiran Kumar Reddy Government during the budget session of the State Assembly scheduled commence from March 13.
The President of the TRS, K.Chandrashekar Rao disclosed this after a meeting of the party’s legislature party where a decision in this regard was taken. He said the TRS would move the no confidence motion against the congress government with support of other opposition parties. The no confidence motion was against the inefficiency and failure of the government on all fronts, he observed.
According to him the BJP and Nagam Janardhan Reddy’s Telangana Nagara Party have already expressed support to the TRS in this regard. The support of the CPI, CPM, MIM and Lok Satta have also been sought and these parties would discuss among themselves and convey their decision. However TRS was confident that these parties would support the no trust motion.
As regards the support of the TDP and YSRCP, Chandrasehkhar Raa said both the parties would contacted, either personally or on phone, and seek their support. In fact the YSRCP MLA Shoba Nagireddy, said that her party would support the no confidence motion if it was meant for the welfare of the people and betterment of the state.
The TRS President said that the party would derail the proceedings of the Assembly demanding a resolution in the House for a separate Telangana State. He accused the ruling Congress of betraying the people of the region by going back on its own promise for creation of a separate Telangana state. The TDLP also passed a resolution demanding uninterrupted power supply for seven hours. The TRS legislators would also actively take part in the Sadak Bandh called for March 21.
The decision of the TRS to move a no confidence motion has taken the Congress by surprise as it was the TDP and the YSRCP which have been playing a cat and mouse game about moving the no trust motion. Even as the leaders of both the parties have been taunting each other to take the lead in moving the no trust motion, the TRS sprang a surprise in this regard.
It is interesting to point out here that the TRS decision to move the no confidence motion was made minutes after the nominations for the MLC elections under the Assembly quota closed at 3 pm and all the 10 candidates ( Five of Congress, Three of TYDP and one each of TRS and YSRCP) have been deemed to be elected unopposed. As a matter of fact the TRS was a little apprehensive over the plans of the Congress to field a sixth candidate, which if done, would have created problems for the pink party’s nominee to get elected. However, with the Congress chickening out in the last moment, the TRS definitely had heaved a sigh of relief.
Having a got the breather from the ruling party’s hesitation to field a sixth candidate and also with the unanimous election of its nominee to the Legislative Council, the TRS threw the no confidence bomb against the Congress government. However, the Congress exuded confidence that the no confidence motion would be defeated since the Congress has sufficient number to sail through comfortably, Minister Parathasarathi declared.
Though the Congress seem to be putting brave show, it has been definitely rattled by the unexpected move of the pink party. Having been cornered unexpectedly, the Congress leadership seemed to be thinking of alternative measures to wriggle out of the tight spot it has been placed.
The only option left before the Congress seem to be bring pressure on the Assembly Speaker to accept the resignations of those party legislators supporting Y.S.Jaganmohan Reddy and his YSRCP. If the axe falls on these Congress defectors and also on the four such defectors of TDP, the total strength of the House would come down and the ruling party would have the required strength to come out of the crisis. However all said and done the ruling Congress has a herculean task to brave the no confidence motion as unlike in the past when Kiran Government could defeat such a motion moved TDP, this time the ruling party does not have the support of the MIM.
