Hyderabad, December 19: Crying foul over discrimination in sanction of rural road developmental works in the State, a Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) delegation headed by E Rajendar held a protest at the Secretariat and met Chief Minister K Rosaiah, urging him to scrap the Government Order immediately.
Addressing a gathering after meeting the chief minister, Rajendar said it was unjust on the part of the government to pass such an order within barely two days of the Centre making a statement on statehood for Telangana.
He pointed that GO (No 1845) was issued on December 11, while Union Home Minister P Chidambaram made the statement on Telangana on December 9.
“Of the sanctioned projects worth Rs 130 crore, a paltry Rs 8.5 crore was allocated to the Telangana region,’’ he said, and added: “The act of allocating it only eight out of the proposed 118 works in the State itself brings to light the lack of commitment on the part of the State Government to develop the region.’’ The TRS legislature party leader stressed that this was a typical example of the discrimination perennially being meted out to the region.
Coming down heavily on Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu, Praja Rajyam Party president K Chiranjeevi and Vijayawada MP L Rajagopal, Rajendar asked: “What do such GOs convey? Does staying united mean developing one particular region at the expense of another?’’ Another TRS leader and former MLA Uma Devender Reddy said the chief minister had given the assurance that the GO would be scrapped.
The delegation also said it had urged the chief minister to lift cases booked against the Osmania University Joint Action Committee members.
The leaders also vowed to continue to expose such discriminatory policies.
