TRS asks State to hold local body polls

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Sunday demanded that the State Government hasten the process to conduct elections for the local bodies in the State.

Talking to reporters here, TRS deputy floor leader T Harish Rao said that the State has been Central funds worth several hundred crores due to the absence of elected local bodies in the State. He said despite knowing the fact that the Central funds could not be received unless elections are held, the State Government has been avoiding the elections citing one reason or the other.

Harish Rao alleged that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy was afraid of holding the local body polls fearing defeat of Congress party. He said that the Chief Minister should be more interested in the development and welfare of the people, than the political implications of holding elections for the local bodies.
