The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) today demanded the Andhra Pradesh Government to initiate process of conducting elections to local bodies in the State. Talking to reporters here, TRS deputy floor leader T Harish Rao said the state was not getting Central funds worth several hundred crores of rupees due to the absence of elected local bodies in the State. He alleged that despite knowing the fact that the Central funds could not be received unless elections are held, the State Government has been avoiding the elections citing one reason or the other. Mr Rao alleged that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy was afraid of holding the local body polls fearing defeat of Congress party. He also alleged that the Chief Minister should be more interested in the development and welfare of the people, than the political implications of holding elections for the local bodies. UNI
