Telangana Rashtra Samithi senior leader and former MP B Vinod Kumar on Tuesday wrote a letter to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy requesting him to take steps to establish a Central University for Women in the backward districts of Telangana region.
In his letter, the former MP appealed the Chief Minister to prevail upon the University Grants Commission and the Central Government to establish a Central University for Women in the Telangana region. He also stated that the university should be named after Rani Rudrama Devi, the great warrior ruler of Kakatiya Dynasty in Warangal. He said that the University would help women to pursue higher studies and stand on their feet.
The former MP’s letter assumes importance in the wake of UGC member D N Reddy assuring the State Government that the UGC was ready to establish another university for women in the State if the government comes up with proposals.
According to reports, the UGC would be convening a meeting on April 26 to take a decision on the establishment of 20 women universities and 14 world class universities across the country. (INN)
