The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday claimed that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi was afraid of BJP’s growing popularity in the region.
Addressing a press conference at the State party headquarters at Nampally, senior BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreyya said that the TRS fears that it might lose its political identity in the region if it loses the by-elections in Parkal assembly constituency. He said it was the same fear that has been driving the TRS leaders to make baseless allegations against the BJP. Appealing the voters in the Parkal constituency to exercise their franchise in favour of BJP, he said if the Congress party fails to announce Telangana by 2014, then the BJP would ensure formation of separate State immediately after assuming power at the Centre.
Dattatreyya said that the main contest in the Parkal constituency would be between the BJP and TRS, he appealed the TRS to reconsider its decision to contest the elections and support the BJP’s candidate. He said the BJP has done ground-level work in the constituency which would ensure that its candidate win the by-elections with a comfortable majority.
Reacting on the transfer of B Prasad Rao as the new Director General of Anti-Corruption Bureau, Dattatreyya alleged that the State Government’s move was aimed at diluting the probe into the liquor syndicate scam. Asking the government to release a White Paper into the investigations into the liquor scam, he said the government has been trying to target ACB DG Bhupati, who has done a commendable job in exposing the liquor syndicates across the State.
