Trough brings rain to coast but T sizzles

Hyderabad, April 07: A cool morning, a not-so-hot afternoon and a balmy evening greeted people in many places across coastal Andhra today.

People got relief from the recent soaring temperatures as moderate to heavy rain occurred in many places. However, heat wave conditions continued in Telangana.

The highest rainfall of 5 cm was reported from Anakapalle of Visakhapatnam district. Narsipatnam in Visakhapatnam district and Veeraghattam of Srikakulam district recorded 2 cm each.

Heat wave conditions prevailed in Telangana as the highest day temperature of 40 degrees Celsius was recorded at Mahbubnagar and Nandyal. Met department officials predicted light to moderate showers in many places in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema in the next few days.

S Venkateswara Rao, assistant meteorologist, told Express that rain lashed most places in north Andhra with 5 cm rainfall due to two upper air troughs extending from Telangana to the southern peninsula covering Rayalaseema and to north coastal Andhra Pradesh. “Because of the trough, Andhra Pradesh experienced isolated moderate rainfall,” he added.

Met officials also predicted light to moderate thundershowers in a few places in the twin cities due to the trough over Telangana. “Even as people are reeling under heat wave conditions in the twin cities, there is a possibility of light showers in the morning or evening,” a Met official said.
