Bareilly: A 2-member team of Uttar Pradesh Minority Commission arrived here to investigate into the matter of fatwa against Nida Khan who is running a campaign against triple talaq. After meeting with district magistrate and senior superintendent of police, the team directed district officials to provide 24-hour security to Nida Khan.
The team comprised of state Minority commission members— Kunwar Iqbal Haider and Rummana Siddique. Commission chairman Tanveer Haider Usmani had directed the team to investigate into the security threat of Nida Khan following a fatwa by the local cleric.
The team also met Nida Khan at her residence to know about her problems of ‘triple talaq’ and ‘halala’.
Nida Khan approached the Supreme Court and challenged the triple talaq given by her husband and filed a domestic violence case against Sheeren and his family for allegedly torturing her. A Bareilly court on Wednesday rejected the petition filed by Nida Khan’s husband who had sought a stay on the domestic violence case filed against him by Khan.
Nida Khan is the wife of Usman Raza Khan alias Anzu Miyan Sheeran of Dargah-e-Ala Hazrat family. Since he was divorced in 2016, Khan is running an NGO to support triple talaq victims in Bareilly.
Recently Imam Mufti Khurshid Alam of Bareilly Jama Masjid issued fatwa against Nida Khan saying, “No medicines will be provided if she falls ill. If she dies, no one is allowed to offer namaz on her ‘janaza’ (funeral procession). She cannot be buried in graveyard after her death. As Nida wants an amendment in Sharia while Islamic laws were made by Allah and has been making statements against Quran and Hadith she is ostracized from Islam, he said.
