Triple Talaq Row: Ruling Gov. still needs opposition’s support on bill

New Delhi: The controversial Triple Talaq Bill passed in Lok Sabha witnessed opposition parties like Congress, TMC, RJD, NCP, and BJD, among others, walking out ahead of voting.

Now speculations are that opposition might seek to deny the government the option of summoning a joint session of both Houses to pass the triple talaq bill, TOI reports.

But in any case, the ruling government at the Centre will be short of 40 odd MPs to implement the Bill, yet the gap can be narrowed down a little with the help of NDA allies but still, it will need a few non-NDA parties to legalize it.

The Amendments moved by the opposition in the Triple Talaq Bill were negated in this session and the bill was, however, passed by division.

The bill’s fate now remains uncertain with majority opposition parties walking out on it.
