Lucknow: Minority Commission Chairman Tanveer Hyder Osmani told the reporters on Wednesday that Islam has nothing to do with triple talaq and halala and it is shameful that triple talaq and halala have become a tradition. Qazis do halala by taking money.

Mr Osmani lashed out at Muslim bodies like All India Muslim Personal Law Board, and Ulamas of Deoband and Bareilly for keeping mum on the issue. They should stop the tradition and create awareness among the public by using the platform of masajid, he said. He was addressing media after the hearing to the victims of triple talaq and halala. He said minority Commission will fight for them and provide them justice. He assured the victims that he will report to the chief minister and seek a ban on halala and suggest strict punishment.

Razia Khan of Moradabad told the Commission that her halala was done by forcing her to have physical relations with her father-in-law, she was undergoing iddat period, when her husband who had divorced her, forcefully had sexual relations with her and she became pregnant. Now both refuse to keep her with them.

Minority Commission Chairman asked DM and police to arrest woman’s husband and father in law. On the occasion, other victims of triple talaq and halal, Baby Afroz, Rubina and Shabina narrated their sorry tales.
