Trinamool MP Mukul Roy evasive of forming new political party

Siliguri: Former Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roy on Thursday remained evasive about floating a new political party and said his first priority was to be with the people.

“Neither ruling out the possibility at the moment nor confirming. Till now I am a Trinamool Congress MP. My first priority is to be on the side of people,” Roy told reporters when asked if he was floating a new party.

Roy, who was speaking to the media at Bagdogra on his way to Mahakal Temple in Darjeeling, said he did not come to the Hills to meet anybody but was ready to talk if Gorkha Janmukti Morcha chief Bimal Gurung wanted to meet him.

Asked if he was showcaused by the TMC leadership, Roy replied in the negative.

“I haven’t received any letter in this regard as yet,” he said.

Stating that he was visiting north Bengal after an year, Roy said, “I want to be in touch with the people of this region.”

Roy was stripped off the post of all-India general secretary by party chief Mamata Banerjee earlier this year after he distanced himself from the party following his interrogation by CBI in connection with the Saradha scam on January 30.

He, however, continues to be a Rajya Sabha member of TMC.
