Kolkata, January 28: With the Trinamool Congress having announced total ”non-cooperation” with West Bengal government, it today demanded the removal of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and fresh assembly elections in the state.
The demand was made by a party”s delegation led by Leader of the Opposition Partha Chatterjee to newly appointed Governor M K Narayanan here.
“Elections in the state should be held immediately after removing Bhattacharjee,” Chatterjee said following the meeting with the governor. He alleged that the CPI(M)-backed goons were attacking people opposed to the Marxist party at places like Salboni, Goaltore in West Midnapore district to gain political footing.
He claimed that the bloodshed could not have taken place without the knowledge of the chief minister. The TC leader said party supremo Mamata Banerjee had taken up the issue with the central government.
The party had yesterday announced ”non-cooperation” with the state government at ”all levels” to protest killing of party supporters at Jhargram in West Midnapore, Mangalkote in Burdwan district and Farakka in Murshidbad district. The party claimed that its activists were killed by CPI(M) members.
The Trinamool delegation included union minister Saugata Roy All India Trinamool Youth Congress chief Madan Mitra.
