Panaji, April 05: A 23-year-old tribal youth was today arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl, police said.
According to police, family members of the 13-year-old victim and the accused wanted to hush up the case but a local women organisation, Bailancho Ekvott, intervened and informed them about the incident.
Both the victim and the accused belong to tribal Velip community and hail from Caribag village, about 50 km from here.
The accused, Nitesh Velip, has been booked under IPC Section 376 (rape) and relevant sections of the Goa Children’s Act, police said.
The rape came to light when the victim delivered a premature baby last week on her way to a local hospital, Bailancho Ekvott President Auda Viegas said.
