Tribal girl molested, family attacked; 40 booked

Palghar: A 15-year-old tribal girl was allegedly molested by a person who later on also attacked her family with a group of about 40 people and threatened to boycott them in a hamlet here, police said today.

On April 20, in Kirat Pada of Nihe village, the girl had gone to fetch water from a well when the alleged molestation incident took place, R A Bhore, Police Sub-Inspector, Manor Police Station said.

“One of the accused was standing near the well and asked the girl to come with him, so that they can elope,” the officer said, quoting the complaint.

“The girl refused and went home. The accused however followed her. After she reached home, he pulled her out and allegedly molested and assaulted her,” the officer said.

When her brother came to her rescue he was also thrashed.

On April 28, the accused, came with a group of people, many women among them, and allegedly attacked the girl’s family with lethal weapons and pelted their home with stones, Bhore added.

Yesterday again, the mob attacked the victim’s family and threatened that they will boycotted by the villagers, police said.

Following a complaint, a case under relevant sections of IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO) was registered last night against 40 persons and 25-year-old Dashrath Pawar was apprehended, police said.
