Trial run of sem-high speed train on Delhi-Agra route

In a bid to make travel between Delhi and Agra, a popular tourist destination, faster, the Indian Railways will on Thursday hold a trial run of a semi-high speed train between the two destinations.

The trial run will see the train travelling upto a speed of 160 kilometres per hour. If everything goes as planned, the service will start in November this year.

The train with an electric locomotive of 5400HP will leave the New Delhi station at 10 am. On board will be Commissioner Railway Safety PK Vajpayee, Divisional Railway Managers (DRM) of Delhi and Agra Divisions, and other senior officials involved with the project.

Anurag Sachaan, DRM of Delhi Division, said that the special train will have 10 coaches and will make the return journey today itself.

To ensure a smooth test run, the Railways will deploy RPF personnel along the route.
