Trial of Mumbai suspects held up in Islamabad till 26th sept

Islamabad, September 20: Anti-terrorism court in Islamabad conducting the trial of 7 suspects linked with the Mumbai attacks, including LeT commander Zakiur Lakhvi, adjourned the hearing till 26th Sept even as a chargesheet was filed against one of the accused.

In a bid to procrastinate the trial related to 26/11 carnage, the hearing of the seven suspects including Lashker-e-Taiba commander Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi has been adjourned till 26th September by an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad.

This is a delaying tactic of Pakistan since the chargesheet has been filed against one of the accused; therefore, the adjournment was inevident.

The Federal Investigation Agency submitted a chargesheet against Younas Anjum, a suspect who was arrested recently, as per the sources.

No further details could be made available on the proceedings due to the strict media blockage imposed by the Judge Baqir Ali Rana conducting the trial.

A gag order has also been issued citing the security concerns.

The trial has been going under the strict vigilance inside the Pakistan’s Adiala Jail in the garrison city of Rawalpindi due to security of the accused, witnesses’ as well as national security reasons.

The information is still not clear on whether the seven accused have been formally indicted as yet though the authorities have so far prepared two chargesheets against them.

Five LeT operatives Lakhvi, communications expert Zarar Shah, Abu al-Qama, Hamad Amin Sadiq and Shahid Jamil Riaz are being tried by the anti-terrorism court.

They have been accused of providing training, financial support, accommodation, equipment and communications gear to the 10 terrorists who attacked Mumbai in November last year.

No details of the charge sheets are also available against the two other suspects, Jamil Ahmed and Younas Anjum.

Following the adjournment of the trial, Pakistan has again refuted the India’s sixth dossier for the lack of information.
