Tri-Marriage Defame Islam

Hyderabad, April 22: Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik became involved in a fresh imbroglio in Hyderabad on Wednesday, a day after he got his passport back from a court.

A little- known Muslim organisation filed a complaint in the Nampally criminal courts against Shoaib and 13 others, including his first wife Ayesha Siddiqui and second wife Sania Mirza, alleging that the ‘triangular marriage’ episode had brought disgrace to the community.

Moullim Mohsin Bin Hussain Al- Kasary, the president of Mazlumeen- e- Ummatay Mohammediy, has filed a petition under Section 295 of the Indian Penal Code. It deals with deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings.

The court directed the Banjara Hills police to register a complaint and initiate the necessary steps. It is not yet known whether the case would come in the way of Shoaib leaving India with Sania on April 23 for Lahore, where the valima (wedding reception) will take place on April 26.

Al- Kasary said Shoaib had changed his versions several times during the course of investigation. “ First he claimed he hadn’t married Ayesha. Later, he admitted marrying her and divorced her.

Ayesha first filed the case and then there was a settlement. With these acts, they have insulted our religion and hurt those who are practising it,” he said.

Al- Kasary questioned the role of everyone connected with the episode, including the mediators who facilitated the settlement and the qazis who granted divorce to Shoiab and Ayesha and then married Shoaib to Sania.

Syed Ethesham, the lawyer who filed the petition on behalf of the organisation, said the court had directed the police to probe the matter.

The complaint lists Shoaib, Sania and her parents and Ayesha (aka Maha Siddiqui) and her parents, among others.
