Hyderabad, June 14: Mild tremors caused by an earthquake in the Andamans and Nicobar Islands sent people in towns along the AP coast into a tizzy in the early hours of Sunday.
People were jolted out of their sleep at about 1 am when tremors rattled windows and upset household articles. From Srikakulam to Nellore, there was a scare that a tsunami might hit fishing colonies along the coastline.
Several parts of Visakhapatnam experienced tremors. “Tremors came in two spells each of five seconds duration. We were scared,” S Padmavathi of Officials Colony said.
Similar was the experience of people living in Vijayawada. People ran out of their apartments afraid that the buildings might collapse.
