Tree which saved 150 lives needs protection

28th September 2011 will mark the completion of 103 years of the famous Musi river flood. On Tuesday 28th September 1908 Hyderabad experienced catastrophic floods of River Musi, flowing across the city. In one day, 17 inches rainfall was once recorded and the water level at Afzalgunj was around 11 feet high.

This is the photo of the historical tamarind tree at Afzal Park in Osmania General Hospital premises taking whose support more that 150 people had saved their lives during the flood. This tree is also called as Masiha (Messiah).

Famous poet of Hyderabad Amjad Hyderabadi’s family members also died in the Musi flood. This tree is in the Muslim graveyard of Osmania hospital which also needs protection.
