Washington, May 02: The US has issued a global traveling warning for all American citizens following the killing of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
After announcing the death of bin Laden during an operation, the US State Department issued a world-wide travel alert for Americans, warning them of “enhanced potential for anti-American violence,” Reuters reported.
“Given the uncertainty and volatility of the current situation, US citizens in areas where events could cause anti-American violence are strongly urged to limit their travel outside of their homes and hotels and avoid mass gatherings and demonstrations,” a statement by the State Department said.
The development comes almost ten years after the September 11 attacks on the United States.
On September 11, 2001, a series of coordinated attacks were carried out in the United States, leaving almost 3,000 people dead.
During the incident, 19 reported “al-Qaeda terrorists” hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners and crashed two of them into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the buildings.
The hijackers crashed a third airliner into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C.
