Transport service remain paralysed on third day of RTC strike

The transport services remained almost crippled on the third day of strike by the employees of Road Transport Corporation in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States.

Minor incidents of violence were reported from a few places. In Khammam, the striking employees damaged the wind screens of three buses when contract drivers tried to ply them on the road. One contract driver got injured in the incident. At other bus depots, the employees cooked food before the bus depots to register their protest.

Nearly 1.20 lakh RTC employees went on indefinite strike demanding payment of 43% fitment allowance. The management has been trying to operate some services with the help of contract drivers and conductors. In Greater Hyderabad limits, 204 buses were operated which include 104 services in Secunderabad and 100 in Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, the RTC management has announced the regularisation of services of some contract employees which include 70 persons in Ananthapur and 50 from Kurnool.

The striking employees have decided to intensify their stir. They will organise Swachh Bharat campaign before all the bus depots on May 10. (INN)
