Hyderabad, February 24: Transport and Communication sectors are witnessing a fast growth in the State with about 5.27 crore mobile phones in use.
A rapid increase has been seen recently in the usage of mobiles, while two-wheelers (69.27 lakh) constitute about 72 per cent of the vehicles on the road, according to the Socio-Economic Survey Report for 2010-11, presented to the Assembly by Finance Minister Anam Ramanarayan Reddy on Wednesday.
With the services, agriculture and industry sectors logging impressive performance, the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has registered a ‘fabulous growth’ of 8.89 per cent during 2010-11, bettering the nation’s GDP of 8.86 per cent.
The sector-wise growth comprised 8.39 per cent in agriculture, 7.79 per cent in industries and 9.61 per cent in the services. The GSDP for 2010-11 (advance estimates) is estimated at Rs.3,71,007 crore as against Rs.3,40, 712 crore for 2009-10 ( quick estimates).
The total production of food grains for 2010-11 is estimated at 189.78 lakh tonnes, an increase of 22 per cent over the previous year, while the cropped area ( 78.08 area) is expected to witness a 17 per cent increase. The new irrigation potential created under Jalayagnam from 2004-05 to 2010-11 p to January 2011 is 22.94 lakh acres, besides stabilisation of 3.87 lakh acres.
With AP contributing 15 per cent of national IT exports, the exports from the State touched a new peak of Rs.33, 482 crore in 2009-10 as against Rs.32,509 crore the previous year. The sector is employing 2.64 lakh people.
Referring to free power supply for agriculture, it said that 1.50 lakh new connections were being released in 2010-11. Under the power sector, the installed capacity has increased to 14, 769 MW.
With about 10 lakh houses completed during the last one-and-half years, the total houses constructed under weaker sections housing programme reached 97.73 lakh houses.
