Commissioner of Minorities Welfare, Mr. Shaik Mohammed Iqbal, IPS told that Allah (SWT) has provided him an opportunity to take part in the educational and economic development of Minorities. He said that he would do his best to implement these welfare schemes with transparency. Soon after assuming charge, he reviewed the functioning of Minorities Institutions under his jurisdiction. In a short span of time, he visited Urdu Academy, Hajj Committee, Minorities Finance Corporation, Christian Finance Corporation, Center for Educational Development of Minorities at Nizam College, Dairatul Maarif, Osmania University. He further told that he would convene a meeting of the wakf board official to take stock of the situation of Wakf properties.
Mr. Iqbal told that he has accepted the responsibility of Commissioner of Minorities Welfare Dept. with a spirit of serving Minorities. He said that he wants to give top priority to the implementation of Educational and Economic Development scheme of Minorities. He mentioned that a lot of work has to be done in this area. He informed that Govt. has enhanced the budget of the Minorities Dept. but the functioning of the institutions under his Dept. has not increased. During his review meetings, he instructed the officials that any kind of corruption or irregularity will not be tolerated. He also told that the disbursement of scholarship system would be streamlined. A meeting of the bankers would be convened soon to sort out the difficulties of the Students in opening Bank Accord. He felt that the training programs of Center for Educational Development of Minorities are very laudable and these should be extended to various districts for this more funds are required.
Reviewing the functioning of Dairatul Maarif, OU, he said that by selling its publications, the institute should raise funds. He informed that Govt. has sanctioned 27 posts at head quarters and 41 posts in districts for the Dept. He is in search of competent officers for appointment to these posts. He assured that whatever expectations, Minorities have assigned to him, he would try to fulfill them.
