Hyderabad, November 19: AP government has given the charge of trangenders’ affairs to the Minority Welfare Department by issuing GO MS 653 on November 15.
Minority Welfare Department will focus its attention to the welfare and prosperity of Transgenders besides, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains.
Authorities are taken aback by the government’s order of including this section in Minorities. It is said that instead of forming a separate department for transgenders, AP State Minority Finance Corporation will be given charge of their affairs.
A few months ago acknowledging Eunuchs as the transgenders the court had ordered the governments to safeguard their rights.
Authorities of the Minority Welfare department working under Minority Welfare Minister Mr. Mohammad Ahmed Ullah are perplexed with the inclusion of transgenders in the department, as the general opinion about Eunuchs is not agreeable. If wished government could have included this section in Social Welfare Department so that no one could have objection in considering them as a part of the society.
The step taken by the AP government would get on the nerves of the workers of Minority Welfare Department as every one knows that this section takes none into account. Minority Welfare Department officials told that if the government doesn’t withdraw the GO then the workers of Minority Welfare Department will be forced to stage protest.
