Tragic end to Hyderabad love story

Hyderabad, July 01: A young couple’s love story had a tragic ending when they were hit by a speeding truck while fleeing police in Shamirpet. While the 24-year-old youth died, his 15-year-old lover sustained severe injuries in the accident.

Naresh, 24, a graduate from Harijanbasti of Shivrampally, fell in love with a class IX student, Anita Jyoti of the same locality. On Sunday afternoon, the couple eloped and went to Naresh aunt’s house in Pragnapur of Medak district.

Based on the complaint lodged by Anita’s family, the Rajendra Nagar police tracked Naresh’s cellphone to Pragnapur. On Tuesday, a police team along with family members of the girl and Naresh set off to Pragnapur in a Qualis vehicle.

When the vehicle reached Shamirpet, one of the family members of the couple noticed the lovers coming on a bike in the opposite direction along with Naresh’s relative Ramchander and screamed at him to stop the bike. As the bike did not stop, the police asked the Qualis driver to take a Uturn and chased the bike. However, on seeing the vehicle following them, Ramchander, stopped the vehicle in the middle of the road.

“As soon as Ramchander stopped the bike, Naresh and the girl tried to run away. A truck coming from the rear hit the youngsters and they sustained severe injuries in the accident,” Rajendranagar SI Kotaiah said. The injured were immediately rushed to Gandhi Hospital in the Qualis, where Naresh succumbed to injuries on Wednesday night. The girl suffered fractures in her left leg, hand and head injury. Police said her condition was stable. Following the death, Naresh’s family members went to the girl’s family and thrashed one of them. Local police rushed to the spot and dispersed the mob.
