Traffic restrictions for immersion

Hyderabad, September 10: The Hyderabad police have sought to allay apprehensions of violence breaking out during the Ganesh idol immersion procession on Sunday saying that there were no specific intelligence inputs about terrorists targeting Hyderabad.

“There is no need panic as elaborate security arrangements are made for the festival. Come, watch the procession anywhere from Balapur to Tank Bund fearlessly,” the Commissioner, A.K. Khan, appealed to people at a press conference on Friday.

However, citizens have to keep the traffic restrictions in view.

The restrictions would come into force from Sunday morning and may extend beyond Monday afternoon depending on completion of idol immersion.

Police suggest that people should use the public transport in stead of using personal vehicles.

Local trains, buses and MMTS trains can be used to reach any point on the main procession route. Use of personal vehicles could add to traffic chaos.

To check the delay in immersion like last year, Ganesh pandal organisers in South and East zones were being persuaded to begin moving the idols at the earliest.

No vehicles except those carrying Ganesh idols would be allowed on the procession route from Keshavagiri in Balapur of Old City to Tank Bund and NTR marg from 6 a.m. on Sunday to 6 a.m. on Monday.

Traffic movement would be restricted on other tributary procession routes originating from different points of the city like Bahadurpura, Kalapathar, Dilsukhnagar and Santoshnagar and joining the main one.

RTC buses
The restrictions apply to RTC city buses also. When the procession is at peak, city buses would not be allowed beyond the following points towards Hussain Sagar: Masab Tank, V.V. statue, CTO, YMCA-Secunderabad, Rathifile, Secunderabad railway station, Clock Tower, Chilakalguda crossroads, Gaddiannaram, Chaderghat, Bahadurpura and Nalgonda crossroads.

Vehicle parking
Vehicle parking places: Institute of Engineers-Khairatabad, MMTS station-Khairatabad, Anandnagar colony to Ranga Reddy district Zilla Parishad office, backside of Budha Bhavan, Goseva Sadan, Katta Maisamma temple, lower Tank Bund road, NTR stadium, Nizam college, Public Garden.
