Traffic helpline gets 380 cals in first week

Hyderabad, May 06: More than a week after additional commissioner of police CV Anand announced the new direct traffic helpline number that he would carry with him always, police claimed that they received over 380 calls on that number from public on various traffic issues.

While urgent issues had been attended to immediately, all the grievances had been brought to the notice of the assistant commissioner or the local inspector concerned for redressal, according to a release.

Similarly, 178 e-mails suggesting various measures to ensure smooth flow of traffic had also been received and the officials would respond to the mails with details of the action taken on the recommendations.

Most of the callers on the helpline, 9010203626, complained about encroachments and obstruction to traffic by pushcart vendors, wrong parking of autos and two-wheelers on the roads leading to traffic snarls and non-deployment of police at key junctions during peak hours.

One caller alleged that a home guard, Chanda Das, had been harassing public for money. On inquiry, however, it was found that there was no home guard with that name in the traffic department.

Meanwhile, the traffic police as part of their special drive to keep carriageway clear booked several persons for encroachment and violating `No Parking’ rule. About 25,000 cases were registered against `No Parking’ violators and 1,265 against encroachers while 7,826 two and four-wheelers were towed away for wrong parking. Further, 332 cases were registered for triple-riding, 3,684 for auto piloting and 278 for talking on the mobile while driving.

The top 10 traffic offenders in the limits of each traffic police station are being finalised and notices would be served on them soon, police said.
