Hyderabad: Telangana Political JAC Chairman Prof. Kodandaram has announced that he would observe ‘Mouna Deeksha’ (silent protest) on October 2 in protest against the State government’s apathy towards farmers. He also said he will tour the districts after October 2 and elicit problems of the farmers and give a call to participate in ‘Chalo Hyderabad’ march.
Participating in a round-table on ‘Telangana Farmers Adverse Conditions — Drought and Crop Loans’ held here on Tuesday, Prof. Kodandaram demanded that the TRS government discuss the farmers’ issue for a full day in the Monsoon session of the Assembly. He also warned the TRS government that he would observe Mouna Deeksha in front of the Assembly if the government failed to mend its attitude.
Prof. Kodandaram said the JAC will submit a memorandum demanding that the government announce its Agriculture Policy immediately. The farmers will be benefited only when they get land for land, he opined and alleged that the government has failed to extend input subsidy to the crop loss. The government has to provide bank loans to the farmers immediately, he demanded and claimed that the government has not yet taken up third phase of loan waiver. The Agriculture department was not helpful to the farmers, he said. (NSS)
