Demanding that the State government provide seed, fertilizers in time to the farmers for the coming Kharif season, Telangana Political JAC chairman Prof. Kodandaram has said the JAC leaders visited five districts and found that the drought was severe. The report on severe drought would be submitted to Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma, he said.
Speaking to the media here on Saturday, Prof. Kodandaram said the JAC will conduct a round table meeting with all political parties on prevailing drought. He said rearing domestic animals has become a problem to the farmers due to severe drought. Demanding that the State government pay Rs 10,000 per acre as ex gratia to the affected farmers, he alleged that the NREGS was not being implemented properly in villages. Prof. Kodandaram asked the government to supply mid-day meal to the poor in villages and clear NREGS arrears immediately. He also demanded that the State government not supply water to the Liquor companies. He urged the government to reopen the Nizam Sugar Factory and assist the farmers. (NSS)
