Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has urged the Chief Election Commissioner to direct the authorities concerned to use ballot papers or EVMs with VVPAT system in the bye-elections to be held for Palair in Khammam district in Telangana State.
TPCC official spokespersons B Kamalakar Rao and G Niranjan have addressed a letter to the CEC in this regard here on Thursday. They stated in the letter that there was scope of tampering with EVMs by the ruling party, the TPCC, in its reparation earlier requested. They urged the Election Commission to use ballot papers or EVMs with VVPATs to uphold faith of the people in electioneering process.
In the recent elections, there were several complaints of tempering with EVMs and candidates expressed shock as they got less number of votes than their own family members’ votes in certain polling booths. In view of this, they stated that the Congress party was requesting the CEC to use ballot papers in the bye-elections to Palair Assembly Constituency in Khammam district of Telangana state. If there is any difficulty in using ballot papers, the Congress urged the CEC to use EVMs with VVPATs, they said. (NSS)
