Telangana Congress, which failed to prevent its leaders from crossing over to the ruling TRS, today sought intervention of Governor ESL Narasimhan to take action against the erring leaders.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah, along with former ministers D K Aruna and Shabbir Ali, today called on the Governor and explained how their leaders were defecting to the ruling TRS.
Talking to mediapersons at Raj Bhavan later, Lakshmaiah alleged that the TRS, which wrested power and its president taking over as Chief Minister, was luring Congress leaders. Ponnala condemned the way the TRS was adopting to lure the leaders by offering them good packages. “It is totally undemocratic and unconstitutional to encourage defections”, he observed. “We have appealed to the Governor to take necessary action against the Congress MPPs and ZPTCs for switching loyalties”.
When asked, Lakshmaiah said the Congress party has informed the high command on the issue. “We will take action soon against such leaders. The party would not spare anyone violating the norms”, he warned. He also asked the TRS Government to stop attracting their leaders. Crop loan waiver, fees reimbursement, power crisis and land to landless poor are the issues which need immediate attention, he suggested.
To a query, the Congress chief said he did not ignore the issue related to offering special powers to Governor ESL Narasimhan. “We are just watching what the Centre would do in this regard”, he said, adding that let the TRS Government fight against the BJP Government. The Congress is against offering special powers to the Governor in joint capital, since the TRS Government is supposed to take care of law and order issue, he added. (NSS)
