TP-JAC demands change in metro rail design

Hyderabad, January 27 (INN): Telangana Political Joint Action Committee Chairman Prof M Kodandaram on Thursday demanded that the State Government change the design of Metro Rail Project as the present design affects large number of heritage structures besides displacing hundreds of families in the city.

Talking to media persons, Prof Kodandaram stated that the present design, if implemented, would snatch the bread and butter of thousands of people besides destroying the heritage structures in the Old city. He appealed to government to rethink on its decision to go ahead with the present design and consider constructing an underground railway line on the lines of New Delhi without causing any damage to the city.

Prof Kodandaram warned the government of serious consequences if it goes ahead with its proposal without changing the present design. “The government should not play with lives of people and their bread and butter,” he stated.

The JAC chairman said that the JAC would convene district leaders’ meeting on January 27 to have a discussion on the promises made by the government to the employees during Sakala Janula Samme. He said the JAC leaders would picket the District Collectorates on January 31 in protest against the harassment meted out to them in offices in Telangana region.

Prof Kondandaram also criticized chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy for dropping Dr P Shankar Rao from the Cabinet. He also condemned the desecration of Dr B R Ambedkar’s statues in Amamlapuram in East Godavari district. (INN)
