Toyota sale of 70,000 Etios in first year

Bangalore, March 20: Japanese car maker Toyota is expecting to sell 70,000 Etios, its latest offer in the compact car segment, and the second plant at its Bidari facility near the city which produces the compact model was in advanced stage of completion, a top company official said.

Speaking to UNI, Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) Deputy Managing Director Sandeep Singh said the second plant would provide 2000 more additional jobs and it would have a capacity of 80,000 Etios annually.

”We are spending Rs 3200 crore on the second plant which is nearing completion. We will roll out the first factory produced Etios in December,” he said.

Mr Singh said Etios was developed from the scratch jointly by Indian and Japanese engineers built on a new platform. He said the company would come out with the pricing of its compact car at the time of launch. Etios would be priced on par with the other competitors in the segment. He said the two models of Etios — 1.5 litre Sedan and 1.2 litre Hatchback would compete with models like Swift Desire from the stables of Maruti Suzuki
and Honda City and the Hatchback would compete with Swift and Ilo-20, produced by Korean car maker Hundai.
