Toyota Kirloskar’s May sales down 2 percent

The Indo-Japanese joint venture Toyota Kirloskar Motor on Sunday reported a decline of 1.98 percent in its monthly sales for May.

The sales for May stood at 12,965 units from 13,228 units sold in the corresponding month of 2014.

“We sold 11,511 units in the domestic market this month. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to our customers due to limited production on account of the planned shutdown,” N. Raja, director and senior vice president for sales and marketing with the company, was quoted in a statement.

According to the company, the limited production this month on account of planned annual plant shut-down will have an impact on the next month’s production as well.

The company’s plant will remain shut down from May 29 to June 6, 2015.

The company added that after airbags were standardised across all grades including the entry-level vehicles, sales of its Etios series grew.

The sales of the entry-level Etios series rose by 12 percent and stood at 36,476 units during October, 2014 to May, 2015 from 32,680 units sold in the corresponding period.
