Tourism shows sign of early recovery from meltdown

New Delhi, January 20: With increase in foreign tourist arrivals in December, tourism in India has started showing signs of recovery from the impact of global economic slowdown.

“Tourism in India has already started showing signs of early recovery from the impact of global economic meltdown and in December 2009 tourist arrivals grew significantly,” Tourism Minister Kumari Selja said.

She was addressing the 5th Tourism Leadership Forum on the “Prospects & Challenge of Tourism Recovery for 2010/2011” in Madrid yesterday.

Selja informed the gathering that one of the reasons for the tourism sector in India not being affected as much as the rest of the world was good performance of the Indian economy.

She said in spite of global economic recession in 2008 and 2009, Indian economy continued to have a good growth.
