Tough action against fake currency rackets: Nepal PM

Kathmandu, September 09: Nepal Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Wednesday assured New Delhi that his government will take tough action against those involved in circulating fake Indian currency.

The Nepali leader also said that his government will not allow the smuggling of fake notes from Nepal into the Indian markets at any cost.

The assurance from the Prime Minister of the Himalayan kingdom comes days after the investigators found clues suggesting the involvement of former Nepali prince Paras Shah into a fake currency racket operated by underworld don Dawood Ibrahim from Pakistan..

The CBI also said that it will probe Paras’ hand in the fake currency racket, but latter’s close aides have dismissed the allegations as totally baseless.

“The charges made by the Indian media — both print and electronic — regarding Paras are totally fabricated and baseless. These are absolutely false,” said Sagar Timilsina, a former aide to King Gyanendra who was deposed after Nepal became a republic last year.

“There is no evidence to prove any links between Paras and the fake currency racket,” he said. He also said that a picture showing Paras sitting close to Dawood Ibrahim was the “product of trick photography”.

The flamboyant former Crown Prince, living in self-exile in Singapore for the past two years, was in Kathmandu recently to spend time with his family.
