YSR Congress Party Honorary President Y S Vijayamma would hold a rally at Sirpur on May 21 to push the State and Central Governments to declare Pranahitha-Chevella irrigation scheme as a national project and expedite work by allocating sufficient funds. “Our Honorary President would also stage a dharna at Pranahitha to protest the delay in taking up the works on the project which will provide water to seven districts in Telangana for irrigation,” party spokesperson Janak Prasad said here today. Though the foundation stone for the project in Adilabad district was laid by then Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy five years ago, nothing concrete was done and work on the ambitious lift irrigation project has been stalled leaving the arid Telangana region totally dry, he said. “Y S Vijayamma would cleanse with milk the pylon erected during the inauguration of the project and sit on dharna against the indifferent attitude of the Congress Government. She would later address a public meeting at Sirpur Paper Mills Ground and highlight the failure of state and central governments,” he said. Prasad said the party demands that the project be accorded a national status. The Jaganmohan Reddy-led party also sought release of allocated funds to expedite the work on the project. PTI
