The political careers of almost all top leaders of the Congress party were washed away under the impact of TRS wave in Telangana.
Prominent among those who lost the elections including Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah, former PCC chief D Srinivas, Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao, former Deputy CM Damodar Rajanarasimha, former ministers D Nagender, M Mukesh Goud, Mohammad Ali Shabbir, Sunitha Lakshma Reddy and others. Interestingly, most of the Congress candidates who lost elections were among the top contenders for the Chief Minister’s post.
While Ponnala had lost from Janagaon Assembly seat in Warangal, D Srinivas lost from Nizamabad Rural.
NDMA Vice-chairman Marri Shashidhar Reddy had lost to TDP candidate Talasani Srinivas Yadav in Sanath Nagar constituency. Former minister Basvaraju Saraiah has lost to Konda Surekha form Warangal East by a huge margin of over 40,000 votes. (INN)
