Mumbai, June 28: The Maharashtra government today said improvement of railway services in the Konkan route was its top priority.
“The government has accorded top priority to the interests of Konkan on the Konkan railway route,” Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said at a review meeting.
Political parties should not indulge in any activity that would derail train services in the region, he added.
Chavan’s comments come in the backdrop of Shiv Sena and State Revenue Minister Narayan Rane declaring that they would organise massive agitations if the plight of the Konkan people was not addressed by the Railway authorities.
Chavan said district collectors have been asked to hold discussions with local passengers associations to resolve issues that can be done at the local level by the Konkan railway. “I will personally look into the issues that need the Railway Minister’s intervention,” he said.
