Top Pakistani official on Iran visit

Tehran, April 20: Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has met with a high-ranking Pakistani official to discuss bilateral relations between the two neighbors.

Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik met with Salehi on Wednesday to explore ways to further expand economic cooperation and fight human trafficking along their common border,

Regarding the recent popular uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa, the two officials agreed that the unrests are not sectarian or religious in nature.

Malik also met with his Iranian counterpart Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar and discussed security arrangements on the Pakistan-Iran border.

The Pakistani Interior Minister is on an official visit to Tehran.

Rehman Malik left for Iran on Tuesday as President Asif Ali Zardari’s special envoy. He is also scheduled to meet with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during his visit.
